gauge cluster

I am sure this may have been covered before but I have had no luck in finding a post on it. I have a 90 model f 150 xlt 5.0 auto 4x4. I have gauges not the dummy lights but no tach, if I can find a cluster with a tach in the salvage yard will it be a direct plug in and go or will I have to do anything to get the tach going. Also did the wiring change any from 87-91 just trying to find the easiest route on changing my cluster to one with a tach.

Yup. I'm mot sure why that post says you can't switch out the speedo. I've swapped the speedo from a cluster with tach to one without so I could have a trip odometer.

For what year truck? Pretty sure the ‘87-91 speedometer is larger in a non tach cluster than it is in one with a tach.

Nope. It's just the side gauges that are bigger on the non-tach cluster. The speedo is the same size. I'm pretty sure that the plastic backing is even the same, just different circuit board.

Yes. I did this with a junkyard cluster, was plug and play. While you have the cluster out, take it apart and clean all the contacts and replace the illumination bulbs with LEDs =)

My junkyard cluster had some corrosion on the oil pressure gauge and it was intermittent, cleaning and applying contact grease to all the terminals fixed the problem.
