'04 6.0, deleted, 2 new oil coolers, new HPOP, coolant filter, SCT tow tune. All work was done 2 years ago. Did a 1200 mile round trip towing 9k lb travel trailer in Sept almost home and noticed oil temp was dropping and then was lower than coolant temp, EOT 188, ECT 198. Checked cold soak koeo temps are always 1-2 degrees of each other. Cold start ECT rises with EOT following. Then EOT passes ECT by a few degrees then starts to drop after a few minutes of driving. Sensor?
Dieselman929 did you find a resolution? Mine is doing the same thing. Truck warms up just like you described and then EOT hits 200 and will drop to 190 in seconds. Then itll climb and hit 203 and fall back down in the 190s and stay there for a few minutes. ECT remains constant around 192-198. EOT has a mind of its own it seems. Cold soak test and theyre within .5-1 degrees of each other.

And your oil cooler is an OEM (water cooled) unit?
Yes it is OEM. I purchased the truck Dec 2019 completely stock with 176k miles and it has 191k miles today. I have a BPD oil cooler and egr cooler boxed up and will be installing them in the coming weeks. Should I pull sensors (EOT, ECT) then and replaced as needed?
Probably so. One thing you can try is swapping the sensors to see if the oil temperature behaves better using the sensor that used to be in the ECT slot. They are the same part.
I went around and only had time to identify the sensors and cleaned the connections. The clios for oil and IAT sensor were broken. Oul sensor connection was clean so i pushed it down really good. Cleaned inside of the IAT sensor and the coolant sensor as well. Didnt have the issue anymore driving home tonight. Maybe it was loose? Wires were all good though. Should I swap pigtails so that I'm not running broken clips?
