Just want everyone to know this forum definitely helped a newjack to the 6.0..had 20 + deltas initially..but thanks to some great suggestions i backflushed the oil cooler(air and water) clr for 25 min..repeated..pulled block drain put hose water in degas ran that for a while..repeated oil cooler backflush.. ran restore first for 1 hour..then vc9 1 hour..then block flush no plug again..then about 10 distilled flushes until sandy debris finally got out..new tsat..and finally rotella ultra elc..got out about a red solo cup FULL of sandy grit plus other nastiness..but deltas are now at 4-8 ° in the hot south georgia sun..hopefully this will save me future work on this 03 sixxer..thanks again for the input and help..
Wow a whole solo cup! That’s crazy. I got about a tablespoon of casting sand out of mine when I did my first hardcore flush. Glad you have an ideal delta. Mine is a consistent 5-7 degrees unless towing in the summer then I might see 10 or so.
seems to me most problems with the 6.0 can be remedied by maintaining a clean coolant system..and regular maintenance (oil changes ..filters..and a good monitor system
How much of the VC9 did you use? I have received VC9 from Rockauto where date of use has expired. Can I still use it?
i used an industrial strenth simple green first 1/2 gal..then 2 qts vc9...that vc9 is some wicked strong stuff..just got to get to operating temp for an hour or so to be most effective..i kept my heat on also since i left in thermostat.i believe it should still be good..you will know after you drain it
Thank you. I prefer to remove the thermostat during such actions to make sure that the stuff is flushed out of the system afterwards
Just remember that 1/2 of your coolant stays in the block even with block plug removed..tstat just lets everything move about unhindered..i went with the gardenhose in degas with block plug out and radiator open ...start truck ..gas a few times to forcibly blow out a bunch of crud..repeat..then multiple distilled flushes
