For chistmas i got a SC ll my ECT , EOT about 20-22 delta. I just read the the coolant flush 101 all 11 pages. Looks like i need to due a vc-9 flush. I'm not tring to stir the pot ,but to use distilled water only or open drain petcock and stick a hose in the degas bottle methods. Was just wandering if Ford from factoy uses distilled or tap water. I have a water softener and is plumbed to outside hydrant to use tap or soft water. I use the soft when I wash vechices no water spots. Is this method to use soft water for flush ok or not recommend. Or flush with soft water ,then vc-9 , flush , open rad. drain and driver side block plug Repeat steps until runs clear. Then flush 2-3 times with distilled water ok. Thanks
I know most will say distilled water or use the hose and then distilled the last couple flushes
But I just used Soft water too I have a water softner too. 10K since I flushed with soft water and put a new oil cooler in and so far so good oil cooler working as good as the day I installed it.
Keep in mind the oil cooler may plug worse once you stir up a hornets nest. You may want to flush right at the oil cooler to egr cooler port that seems to help some folks
Oh 1 more thing verify the temps are the same after a cold soak on the SG
I saw some pics. on how to do that with the vinyl tubing and back flushing the heater core to. But the didn't say what they used to reduce water pressure . But stated to not use more than 16 psi of water .

I dont think you have to worrey about that
I stuffed a hose in every connection hose, port, heater core, radiator whatever I tried to flush reverse of the normal flow. I was hoping that the velocity of the water would help push the junk out. Ran multiple cycles of cleaner with the thermosat out at high Idel waisted a tank of fuel but so far it paid off.
Did u drain coolant then due the reverse flush everything first ,then do normal flush ? Also did u use vc-9 or not ? I want to change over to the CAT coolant aswell . My dad has worked for CAT for 30 years. They have good products. I do this maybe next w/e I'm going to install a coolant filter also. Whats a good filter . Napa / Donalson that's what CAT uses generally. CAT dealer is only about 10 mins. away
Lets see I flushed the coolant out and pulled the thermostat out and ran it with a few water flushes to get the coolant out not to long on those.
But then I did vc-9 cleaner set the truck to 1100 rpms and let it go for an hour heater on high.
Make shure you pull the thermostat I did it B4 with it in.
and the VC-9 didnt clean neer as well as when I pulled the thermostat out with it out the truck took a couple flushes and the water was crystal clear coming out
then I reverse flushed with the hose stuffed in the heater hoses reverse flow at the thermistate while the block drain plugs was out and radiator petcock open
Just hoped it would flush the junk out The more you flush the better your odds are
Oh 1 more thing my OIL COOLER was plugeed Soild at the end of this

I cut that oil cool;er open so you can see inside it
Benny,
How many miles were on your truck in the summer when you did the oil cooler? How long have you owned it? Was this the first time you have changed the coolant?
It is hard to tell from the pics, but does it look like casting sand from the block and heads in the cooler?
Benny, do you know how to change the math on the scan gauge? After a cold soak, my oil temp is 1.5 degrees warmer than the coolant. Sorry to highjack the thread!
Benny, Thanks for all the replies don't know when I'm going to get to flush it , alittle cold right now to be outside doing this .Tomorrow's high 24*. This might have to wait until spring . Great pics. on oil cooler swap. Thanks again.

I beleive Im the 2nd owner got it at 36K
I changed the coolant and did a round of flushing VC-9 at 70500 added a coolant filter at this time to
didnt drive it much then so I let it filter for 2500 miles changed the coolant filter 2 times in that time
I was at 73K when I did the oil cooler another round of flushing with VC-9 and this time is when I undid all coolant lines everywhere and stuffed the hose in them and let it just flush with the hose for a few
It looked like casting sand to me as well and on that note I had a 25* spread at all times if I drove far enough to get it warmwd up to that point
also when I did 6the oil cooler I made the change over to ELC although I dont think coolant type is my problem
I drove around town 3-4 hours and my deta was 6-8 degrees. I've notice when i get on the highway I drove it yesterday 15 miles then it was 20-22 *. Also when running around town when i turned the heater up a few degrees my delta went down to 3-4* delta. Then when the climate control meet demand delta came back up 6-8*.
