You know, even with the light obscured a little, there is plenty of light to see what is in the bed. I don't have a cover on mine, so the overhead cargos really increase the illumination. I think you'll be happy in the long run. If I know I'm going to fill the bed, I take my box off and put it in the cab.

Make sure to add the hinge lock -- it's missing in your pics, but maybe you installed it after you took those pics. Without it, anyone can just lift the box off the hinges and walk away with it. Take a look at my pic above if you don't know what I'm talking about. It's a small lock that sits on top of the bottom hinge and is keyed the same as the main toolbox lock. Might not be as necessary with your bed cover, but I'd still add it if you haven't already.
I've got both my pivot boxes loaded up pretty good and they open and close just fine. I really like having them and if I need some extra space I just lift them out.
