Hello, I recently purchased a 1970 F-250 with the 390 FE and a 4 speed. I am needing to replace the flywheel because the teeth have been stripped out. I have called a bunch of part yards and auto parts stores and the only thing I can find are the new high-performance Ford flywheels for $300+. Any recommendations for finding a flywheel?
The best way is to let a machine shop do it. Here its 30.00 and I don't hassle with it. You can do it at home but you need a real torch for this job. The ri g gear is fairly cheap.
Oh, if that's something they can do, I hadn't even thought about having them do it. Should I be planning on getting the flywheel resurfaced at the same time? Should I replace any parts while I'm doing work in that part of the truck (clutch, linkage, etc)?
Replace the ring gear, nothing wrong with the flywheel unless its cracked.
180T flywheel ring gear is the same 1965/67 F100/350 352, 1968/76 F100/350 360/390 // 1965/71 352/390 Passenger Cars, should be available from auto parts stores.
Auto parts store machine shops can sweat the old ring gear off, sweat the new ring gear on.
