Thanks Seaves this is the kind of thing that concerned me . If they were compatable parts there should have been no need for grinding anything and if you are correct about the tapered spline this is a VERY dangerous combination .

Thanks guys. I didn’t realize the shaft is tapered, it must be a very subtle taper. Anyway, as I stated, I have the correct pitman arm on its way, and I’m not actually driving this truck yet, so I’ll have it swapped out soon. Appreciate all the advice.

Glad you found it and it was a simple fix. Not to be critical, but how did you manage to do that? I hope the splines are also locating the pitman arm on the steering box and not just the pinch bolt.
