About a year and a half ago, i replaced my power steering pump with a rebuilt advance auto one. I used type F ATF per the forums and within the last few months the pump has already started to fail. It makes grinding noises until hot then it whistles. Was this because I shouldn’t have used type F? Should I be using regular PS fluid with these newly rebuilt pumps? I’m going to replace it again soon and want to make sure I use the correct fluid.
The fluid is irrelevant, the reman is your problem. The reman units are terrible quality (Cardone)and unless you installed the return line filter the pump will also ruin your steering gear.
