ATF or Power Steering Fluid?

Was wondering if it is OK to run ATF in my Aerostar power steering pump instead of power steering fluid? Anybody doing this? Seems to be common in trucks (spec for my F-250 is ATF or power steering fluid, depending on the source you check) but don't know about my van. My choice would be Mobile 1 ATF if compatible with seals, etc. Thanks!

While not a '95, in my '92 F150, I used Type FA automatic transmission fluid after replacing my power steering pump.

My '92 F150 is equipped with the C-11 power steering pump. In my Ford manual, it says to use a fluid that meets specification(ESW-M2C33-F) or equivalent. After I installed the new pump, I refilled with CarQuest Type FA Automatic Transmission Fluid. It does say on the back of the bottle that this fluid meets Ford Specification (M2C33-F). I will post a question in the transmission forum and see what they say.

I ended up posting a question on this in the steering section. Maybe somebody will chime in.

i use the valvoline pwr sterring fluid with the seal conditioner. it really worked to help it stop leaking. also you can dump in a little of that jacobs stuff. its supposed to stop leaks. i say use this kind of stuff cause you'll get more miles out of your pump. cause if a ford aint leakin, it's empty......
