I'm new to this site & seeking some help. I recently bought this truck knowing it had this problem figured it has to be electric problem. So I paid 1k for the truck it runs & drives but it won't shift 1st or 2nd on its own it seems 3rd & 4th work after. The guy i got it from said he replaced the tranny not sure if it was rebuit or a donor from another, but also the pcm has been replaced before I got it & was the reason the dude was selling it. I've replaced the main wiring on the passenger side tranny which helped the hard shifting but I still have to shift manually. I've pulled codes I'm getting a 621 which says shift solenoid 1 & a 629 for a torque converter code & code for transmission temp switch note sure if I ran the test correctly. The speedo does work but bounces some around 60-70mph.
The 621 code is why it won't shift. There is an electrical problem with shift solenoid 1. It is either a problem with the wiring harness or a bad solenoid.
Since I've already replaced the solenoid harness to the tranny, so its either a harness to the pcm possibly pinched wire or maybe just a bad solenoid when the replaced the tranny. Like I said I'm not 100% sure which what they did before I got the truck. Just know it supposedly has a new tranny but doesn't maybe rebuilt or from a donor truck & a pcm, I still have the original pcm maybe try that?
The way to do this is to ohm the torque converter clutch wiring (two wires in the harness) and the torque converter clutch solenoid. If both are good, it's the PCM. Chances are one is bad. The least likely failure is the PCM.
