Hello everyone. I have a 00' 3.0 2wd ranger that is having some tranny trouble. My tranny sticks in 1st too long before hard-shifting onto second. When I get on the throttle farily heavy it will wind up to the rev limiter at which time I have to let off to get it to shift. Also, when it makes a reallty hard shift the "O/D off" light starts blinking. I'm thinking electrical, dealer thinks new tranny. Suprised? Me neither. Anyway, I take it to a friend of a freind who works at at tranny shop, and he scans it. Shift solienid B or 3 is giving a trouble code. I dropped the pan - no metal chunks to speak of - and replaced the solenoid, but I'm still getting the same problem. Now I'm thinking either wiring or connector problems in the solenoid electrical circut, or defective PCM. I have always had some strange electrical problems like guages filckering on and off, etc. Could the PCM be the source of all my problems. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Must be the week for this problem I am having the exact same problem as you with my 1995 4WD Ford Explorer. I took it to the tranny shop and he said it is LOADED with codes and to take it to the dealership and I know they will tell me to replace the tranny in it as they did you.
I took it there 4 mos ago with the OD light flashing and they also told me to replace it then However this may help you im not sure When i had the dealership scan it they found code 647 Incorrect Gear ratio obtained for the 3rd Gear. They didnt know what the code was for and listed it on my bill of repair as "Cannot Verify at this Time", and advised me to replace the entire transmission to the tune of 3,000 CAD.
Perhaps this is the same problem in some way related as now with this problem my O/D light is flashing again Will keep you posted of my findings please do the same ty! Im with you I believe its electronic.
