Hi guys. I have a 1990 F250 with an E40D trans. It wants to go forward in Neutral and works fine in D 1 2 but reverse is non functional. Is there anything I might try with the trans before pulling and rebuilding? Thanks for the suggestions.
Hi Mark. Thank you for your reply. Looks like Park works fine as does Drive and manual 1 and 2. It wants to move forward in Neutral and reverse does not work at all. Figured we would rule out any simpler solutions before we do to the work of pulling the trans.
Had my 1995 motorhome tranny looked at because of a leaky input shaft seal. Once they got it out, there was multiple problems showing on the outside - torque converter was factory installed incorrectly, grease from somewhere slung all inside the bell housing. Decision was made to go the rest of the way through it. Good thing. Clutches had hot spots, etc. Was disappointed because it only had 24k miles on it. Had it rebuilt with a billet converter put in and a shift kit. Tough pill to swallow, but didn't want the headache of losing the tranny in the middle of the Utah desert.
