Hey guys I have a 95 F250 (5.8, e40D, 2wd, not sure about the rear gears) and the engine went out (I think) after I towed my dakota roughly 50 miles, anyway for the short term I am going to find a good used motor to drop in so it at least runs, but on the side I want to rebuild the orignal engine, if I can, for more torque as well as some other upgrades to better suit it for towing/work
i mainly want to:
rebuild the engine myself and drop it in
install a manual transmission or rebuild the e40d since its near the time for replacement
re gear it for towing/install a limited slip
install a better flowing/sounding exhaust
I'd like to be able to keep the fuel system stock for the sake of simplicity as well
Any advice on what will/won't work, parts suggestions, what modifications I need to make would be greatly appreciated
Here's what I did with the 351 in my 96 E150 van: GT40 heads, Cobra roller rockers (1.76 ratio vs 1.6 stock) Adjustable fuel regulator, shorty headers, full 3" single exhaust, 4.10 ratio gears with traction-loc in the 8.8 with new axles.
