4.9 rebuild vs reman

This is going to be my first engine rebuild or replace. It's going to be my oldest sons truck in a few years so the rebuild would be a good time to spend with him but don't know the process of what to do to the engine, crank, and head. What to buy new for the rebuild and any upgrades to do while in there. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I know you're not going to get much power in a 300 but maybe a little bit of both and I'm ridiculously expensive it's my son's first truck so

well you can always get a set of forged rods and pistons, after that ditch the nylon timing gear for a steel one. port and polish the head and intake, do a Mass air flow conversion if you dont already have mass air. after that is all done beef up the auto trans with a shift kit, rebuild kit, and the biggest trans cooler you can fit. after that if you have any more money you have a platform that is well suited for a turbo

When doing forged rods and pistons do you upgrade the cam or keep it factory specs with adding a turbo. Do you have to do anything to the pcm?

you may have mass air already being a 94, not sure when they switched over, as for the cam, i am not sure, i heard from frenchtown flyer that the stock cam does pretty well for a turbo but there is more to be had with a custom cam

as for the mass air conversion

then i would go to the junkyard or find an aftermarket kit and convert it, you can get the obd1 to support more power but most find it worthy to convert to mass air, though most do it on v8s that tend to make more hp so im not sure if it would be as worth it on an inline six.

another one specifically for performance
