Hi guys, still with electrical problems:
turn on the key and hear only the relay click
with key on, unplugging the governor and relay clicks, reinstall wire and relay clicks again
Dennis Carpenter kickdown switches, 2 of them, changed both, no joy
referring to the PDF wiring diagram and then looking at the switch, the letters 'A' and 'B' seem rotated on the switch and I wonder if this the the problem in my wiring
using the ohmmeter, the 2 terminals closest to the threaded body are connected at rest, 2 furthest terminals make contact when switch is depressed
bench tested solenoid and works fine
pulled the governor and looks fine inside, cleaned excess oil, top switch clicks easy and properly when done by hand
all new wiring throughout truck, 6v pos. still
think I should just refer to the PDF drawing and forget the stamped letters on the switch?
could the governor also be suspect?

I am very familiar with the OD wiring as I installed it on 49 Ford convertible. I have also found it is easier to converse by phone while working on wiring issues. PM me and we can discuss.
You probably have heard these before, but I will mention them just in case:
Have you cleaned the points in the governor? Dirty governor points can cause intermittent or complete lack of overdrive.
Did you make sure to insert the solenoid with a bit of a rotation to line up the flats on the plunger? I forgot to do this once and had free wheeling but no overdrive.
Also, you can use long jumper wires to test overdrive function before going into the rest of the overdrive electrical system. Since you tested the solenoid you know which of the wires activates it. You can run a jumper wire from that into the car, and a second from your battery into the car (be careful when doing this!). Get going down the road at about 30 mph, push in the overdrive cable, connect the jumper wires (I have always had a passenger do this part), then left off the throttle. You should drop into overdrive. If you didn't get overdrive, diagnose the solenoid and mechanical function of the overdrive before continuing to work on the electric controls.
Just an update, Jerseydevil called me and went through my entire wiring on the phone! It turns out the governor was shorted so I replaced it and everything works fine.

Awesome! Reps to Jersey Devil!
Now you are all set to come to PA TS 2021. Then we can see your green 53 in person.

You might open the old one up to see if it can be repaired, as I recall they are real simple. Just a pair of points actuated by the weights. Nice to have a spare.
