Hello everybody,
My abs light is coming on it seems to come on every now again, my machanic checked the codes and he said that a lot of diffrent codes came up
Could one or all of my sensers be going or could it be something else
Thanks
It is possible that the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is dirty and needs cleaning, or it has gone South. I had the ABS light come on both of my trucks and a quick replacement of the VSS sensor cured both. Another sympton was my speedo went dead occasionally.
Just in case you don't know, the VSS is on top of the rear diff and is held in with one bolt and has a wiring harness plugged into it. You can try removing it and cleaning the surface of the sensor (be sure to clean around it before removing) and see if this helps, or buy a new one at about $15-$25 at the Ford dealer.
Hope it is something as simple as this.
Obviously, you need to know WHICH codes it's giving. Buy a Haynes manual and pull the codes yourself - it only takes a jumper wire, like a paperclip or something. The Haynes includes a code list, so you can find exactly what it's telling you.
Technically, that's the ABS sensor on the rear diff - the VSS was on the older speedo cables.
my haynes manual does not have codes... it tells me to go to a dealer. See I have a 99 f150 manual V8.
Unless I just missed them...
As far as pulling the codes myself are you talking about couting the times the ABS light will blink on the dash?
where do I retreive the codes from?

This is the Big Bronco Forum ('78-96), so my earlier statement applies to '87-96 F-series and '87-91 Broncos only. (It was actually directed at BigFootnHawse.) You should look for a Ford/Helm service CD for your year of truck. Each CD covers one year model of either all Ford cars or all Ford light trucks & vans. It will tell you exactly how to read your codes, what the codes mean, how to diagnose each fault, how to repair it, and how to test it, PLUS everything else you could possibly want to know about your truck & all the other covered vehicles. You can find them on eBay for $5-10 each plus delivery, but if you know someone who has one & a CD burner, they can be copied easily. Your local Ford dealer might sell you one, too.
this is the reason why I posted here so I could find somebody with your knowledge.
Thanks for your input it has been really helpful
I 'll check E-bay right the way.
I tried Ebay but no luck
Are you sure about the spelling?
they have some Ford motor company DVD for about $ 20...
Any other hints?
I'll search Helm on the search engine..
