I searched and found some threads on the ABS light, but none match my problem. This just started happening and the ABS light will come on and go off randomly. Sometimes it will come on after startup and then stay on for a while, then go off. Othertimes, it will not even come on until after I'm driving, then it will stay on until turn off.
It seems like a wire short/connection problem. I read where the ABS sensor could be bad and it's on the rear diff.
What's the part number for it and where is it?
btw, this is on a 2005 4x4 with 4-wheel ABS. I have no other lights on and my code reader shows no codes on the truck.
It's the only thing on the diff with wires and one ten mm bolt. Only time I have had my light come on is my front wheel bearing was going bad. Once with thirty five's and once with forty's.
A standard code reader will not read the ABS codes ... you'll have to go somewhere with a more fancier reader that has a chip for the ABS system.
Some have had luck with pulling the sensor out of the rear diff and cleaning it; but, I would suggest have the ABS codes read first to verify that is is the rear sensor.
My brake light does NOT come on - just the ABS light. About a month ago, my speedo did act really weird though. We were going about 60 down the highway when it jumped to 90 and stayed there. It then read about 30 mph high continuosly. I fixed it by unplugging the cluster and plugging it back in, that reset the speedo. Don't know if that was related or not, but it has not acted up since then.
hmmm the speedo abs comment caught my attention.
i had an issue a few months ago, engine running like crap, speedo dropping down but no actual change in speed and the abs light coming on and off, we finally determined that the cop #6 was bad, that took care of the engine running like crap but also the abs and speedo issue disappeared as well.

Where does everyone find this part for only $20? Best I can find is for $48 and adding on the pigtail and dielectric and I'm at $100 to replace this senser on the rear diff!!!
Thanks for all the help - I pulled the speed sensor, cleaned it and put it back in. Called my local stealer and they wanted $80 for a new one!!!!
So I checked all wires including the front two ABS sensor wires and sure enough, the passenger side has been rubbing on these oversize tires and was broke making just partial contact.. So I cut and spliced and voila!!! problem fixed... and no denaro lost!
