The pin is serrated on one end, you need to support the Sheetmetal around the serrated end an and push it out from other side. Be prepared and plan on a little frustration, I've done it to get a higher MPH speedo but wanted miles correct.

That looks correct, just the pin for the little gears. Then you can rotate the number wheels but pay attention that they have narrow and wide teeth. They all have to index correctly for every number to advance. Take your time or get another to practice on.
