That awesome to hear that you love it. Looks like he’s changed his fluid and torque converter since I bought mine 5 years ago. When I bought mine he used Schaffer’s synthetic and my converter is purple/ pink ish.
Still running good, the first 3 years I had it I didn’t drive a lot since I was in school but I’m driving a lot more now. My only issue is my fault and that’s it shifts very firm when pulling my 5th wheel shifting from 3rd with high boost to OD. I’d imagine with a different turbo setup and maybe different tunes it would function better.
Another BTS fan here. I have had mine for at least 10 years. The BTS name has really withstood the test of time, while some of their competitor's reputations have lost their glitter. The reason is simple; Brian (the owner) still loves what he does and is thankful to be doing it. He is very hands on operationally. The last time I saw him, he was cleaning up the shop on a Saturday - you gotta love it when the boss doesn't think he is too important to do the lowest employee's job. It's just crazy that BTS is as busy as ever putting top notch (and relatively pricey) transmissions into an old platform. Good for BTS!.
I think post-sales support is just as, if not more important than, the product itself. This is where Brian shines. I managed to break the intermediate shaft in my BTS and he took care of me in as honorable a fashion as one could wish for. I live in fear of the day Brian retires.
BTS owner for many years. Can not say enough good things about the service or product. Past time for me to change filter and fluid. Need to look for the tranny fluid change document sheet (seen one years ago) and find the correct filter and oil?
Anyone really thinking about going with a BTS needs to schedule a time to take your truck to him and have him work on it while you are there. When Brain was done working on mine and we too it for a test drive. It did not 'seem' 'right' as to when I wanted it to shift (great, but not 'right' for my minds sake). When I described how I would 'like' for it to 'shift/feel', he said to pull it back into the shop and in less than ten minutes had installed a different 'shift plate' and out the door we went. Perfect….. Me So Happy.
Eagle, how heavy is your 5th wheel ? I ask because I noticed you are towing with those 200/80 injectors. Are your EGT's staying in check? And what kind of mpg are you getting towing? Aways wanted 200/100 never got them but have settled on 160 because of my heavy 5th wheel. Abinsur, I am glad you like your trans. I feel from years of reading on here BTS is the best out there in both customer service and product!
Is there a break in period or is it put it in and it either works or doesnt. Putting one in but have a trip scheduled and not sure how long is safe to test for gremlins
Bonanza, it’s supposed to be about 8-9k as it sits but I haven’t checked it on a scale to confirm. My last trip into central Missouri I never saw 1200 on my EGT gauge with cruise set at 65 climbing the hills. My trip to where we camped I averaged a little over 10 and back home was a bit over 9, I had a dragging brake caliper the entire time so not super accurate. I believe with a better turbo setup it would have done better.
Drtrash, nope no break in period. When I got mine we went out on a test drive and he said hammer it and see what it’ll do.
Thank you Eagle for the reply. My 5th wheel is 12K to 16K depends how I load it. At least that is what the paper work says. Glad to here that. In the pass really know body wanted to go bigger then the 160/ towing. It has been done a lot but seemed to always have EGT problems. Use to be 238/80 was a no no to, but I here that people are now doing it, it makes me wonder how heavy of a load they are really hauling. Tuning and turbo's have really made a difference in today's world.

I'm giving her a little throttle now at about 500 miles. When she's cold, she shifts like butter, but as she warms up, they get a little firm. Not bad, but firm. I can't wait to tow with it in a few weeks. Probably loading up for 7-8K lbs on an easy drive to the coast. Definitely wouldn't feel comfortable with that old stock trans making the same trip behaving like it was. Gonna keep her at 60-65 all the way, the smaller 'tow' tune and away we go! So far though, just awesome.
