Add OEM Factory Remote Start with 4 button Key Fob

I installed the factory remote start with 4 button key fobs on my 2018 F150 XL. I also verified this works on the F250 and F350. It's the same part number for all models. I also verified the Forscan settings match on the F150 and F250 for this mod.

My vehicle came equipped with remote door locks (3 button key fob). This upgrade was showed to me by a friend. I take zero credit for figuring it out. Just wanted to share it with the group. I had previously given up on adding remote start since I was unwilling to go without the 4 button fob with the LED. My total cost was about $140. Hopefully someone else is as excited by this as I was.

I realize this will probably make sense to those familiar with Forscan and leave others completely lost. I will not attempt to explain how to use Forscan. There are entire threads and videos on the subject. Take some time to learn the risks and how to use it before you proceed. I have added some basic details/explanations in parentheses.

Summary:
  1. Add new 4 button key fobs to vehicle. (I added 2, since the original 2 fobs will not work with the new module. Follow the steps in the owners manual to add keys. You must have 2 currently active keys to do this. The new keys must be cut or you can MacGyver it like I did. Disassemble the keys and carefully, without fully assembling, hold the blade in the old fobs and then the new fobs. You have to do this kind of fast. This will make sense once you review the owners manual for adding keys.)
  2. Use Forscan to save the RTM module data.
  3. Replace the Tire Pressure Monitoring System Receiver with the new one. (It is located inside the vehicle, on the passenger side, along the top corner of the rear window under the headliner. Its directly above the passenger headrest. I have not been able to add a pictures yet. I will continue to try later this week. I just gently pulled the headliner a few inches away to expose the module. The module snaps in place from the rear. Then unplug it. Install the new module.)
  4. Use Forscan to upload the saved RTM module data.
  5. Use Forscan to edit the BCM Module. Line 726-22-02: xxx0 xxxx xxxx to xxx1 xxxx xxxx Only change the 4th digit from a 0 to a 1. All others stay the same.
  6. Relearn your tire pressure sensors. (Use the owners manual to relearn them just like you would after a tire rotation. They may still show the values from when the old module was there, but the live connection has been lost. I am told if you drive on them, you will eventually show an error several miles or so down the road. However, that was not my experience.)
Parts needed:
  • 164-R8134 4 Button Key Fob ($40 each used. I ordered online from a company that sells new and used keys.)
  • f2gz15607c Tire Pressure Monitoring System Receiver ($40 from most Ford parts dealers. I ordered online from a Ford dealer and it took about a week to arrive. It was not in stock anywhere.)

So the remote start module is shared with the TPMS module?

There isn't a remote start module. The RTM is dual purpose, its a transceiver for the TPMS and a receiver for the FOB. Trucks with factory remote start use 902hz fobs and this module is needed to pick up the signal. If the BCM is enabled for remote start along with the IPC remote start menu then you will have a functional remote start.

Help with 2022 F250

This is exactly what I want to do with my 2022 F250. Do you know if it is the same for 2022? I have remote start via the modem and FordPass app, but I want the 4 button fob and ford dealer told me it’s not possible.
this will be awesome if it works for my year!

Can anyone help me with the RTM Module i need for a 2022 f250 lariat? For some reason, it seems all the part numbers change when it goes to '22 Model year.

From reading multiple posts, it seems I either need an RTM module that accepts 902 MHz, or the ford Perimeter Plus module, or both. I cannot tell. I am just hoping at least one of these will work, but I cannot verify the part numbers or what will work. Dealers are of no help because they just say it can't be done, and I know it can.

Anyone who is fluent in navigating ford oem parts and can help me narrow down what I need, would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks all

The perimeter plus is not needed for remote start
it is an add on to the factory alarm system and provides motion and shock detection
to add remote start you need to upgrade ther RTM module ang get the 4 button key fobs
your vehicle has a single frequency @315mhz RTM
you need to replace it with the dual frequency RTM which has 315 & 902 mhz

I know this is the F150 thread, but you guys seem to be the only ones that response! Can anyone confirm that this works? I have found a 902mhz receiver as well as a 315/902mhz receiver that works with my vehicle. I am not sure if i should use the dual rated one or just the single 902mhz rated one.

ML3Z-15607-K (this is the 315/902mhz rated one)

My VIN is 1FT8W2BT8NED58932. Anyone who is good with this stuff the help would be appreciated!

I used a remote start from StartX. It cost $100 and hooked up in about five minutes. But I have the three button remote

I have the same question if the dual frequency RTM is needed in a ‘22 Super Duty?

Keys

I got the new 4 button key and it won’t program for some reason. I got it cut at the dealer and put a new battery in it, any idea as to why it won’t work? I don’t want to skip this step since you say the old keys won’t work
EDIT FIGURED IT OUT, had to use different sequence than what my manual said
Quote:
  • Insert 1st original key and cycle from off to run (not start) eight times (back to back)
  • Turn to off position and remove key
  • Insert 2nd original key and cycle from off to run two times back to back
    • Dash displayed my SecuriCode keypad door code
  • Turn to off position and remove key
  • Insert new key and cycle from off to run leave in until dash displays Key Programmed
  • Key Programmed might not display but you should hear the door locks actuate.
  • Remove key and check that the unlock /lock buttons work. Then try the remote start button. If it all works you're good to go
