I have a mr gasket 3 speed floor shifter that the PO put in my 66 F100. It was working ok, then got jammed. I spent the better part of the day with it and it's back together, but I can't get it to stop jamming between 1st and 2nd.
It jumps into the gate before returning the reverse/first control shaft back to neutral, so then of course it gets stuck and won't let you shift into second. The only way to recover is to go back and try to find first, bring it back to neutral, and then carry on to second.
Maybe I put something back together wrong, but I can't tell, the manual is garbage and you can't make anything out in the pictures. Anyone else have one of these working right they can take some pictures of?
I think Holley Performance Group owns Mr. Gasket along with Hurst now. They might have something on their website. Odds are the things are discontinued along with the parts for them. If you can get over the sticker shock a Hurst is a way better shifter. Keep in mind if you look at Hurst the install kit and the shifter are sold separate.
Agreed. I would really like to get the mastershift, added to the list.
For the meantime, I managed to get it working again. I put an old cell phone on record and ran through the gears. Then I could see what was happening. There's a pin on the shifter plate that is pressed in which has developed a worn edge for R and 1st (right side in attached image). I rotated the pin 90 degrees with some vice grips and it's working as expected.
I have the guest master shift. Noted that I needed to apply slight pressure towards me when shifting from R/1 into the gate to 2/3. I also noted that the “teeth” on the linkages were grabbing on some numbers cast into the side of the transmission. Little grinding to knock them down slightly improved the issue, I’ll have to look into your remedy too.
Update - finally installed the master shift. Mr gasket unit kept getting stuck going from 1 to 2 with diagonal movements. Only worked if I was very deliberate about following the dog leg in the shift pattern.
The Hurst is superior in all respects of course, including setup.
