floor shifter

I've got a 66 F100 with a three speed on the floor. The shifter is a Hurst. The shifter was installed prior to my purchasing the truck so I can't tell you how difficult it was. However, given the amount of room to work with, it doesn't look too difficult. The fit is good, just a tad bit tight against the seat but well worth having on the floor. Good luck and enjoy that stick on the floor!!!

The hardest part is cutting the hole in the floor. I did my 64 about a year ago and it worked great.
1. Start by going under the truck with the bracket assembly minus the shift lever.
2. Hold the assy. as close to the mounting location as possible to determine where the shift lever will be passing through the floor.
3. use a long screwdriver and a hammer to dimple the floor from underneath the truck.
4. Mount the shifter to the trans minus the linkage and lever.
5. Inside the truck, you will see your dimple, drill a hole in the floor with an 1/4" drill bit and look for the shifter.
6. Now you can guage where your boot plate will need to go.

My advice is to cut just enough to insert the shifter and bolt it up. Once you do that, hook up your linkage and move the shifter around in the hole. Open it up as you need to to fully engage the gears. You should not have to make the hole any bigger than the boot plate.

I believe it was a MR. Gasket Shifter for light trucks. The shift lever ended up about 1" in front of the seat when in first gear.
You should be able to adjust the linkage to acheive a short throw in all tree gears and reach a little to push into reverse.
Most guys set up the shift pattern wrong and have reverse toward the seat but the proper pattern is left/up for reverse, left/back =1st
right /up = 2nd, and right /down = 3rd. If you run into any trouble, reply to this thread and I will try to help.

I had a 3 speed floor shifter in my 65 and I hated it. I was just wondering why you were wanting it on the floor? I always thought that the three on the tree was one of the most fun things to drive, and when I got an old column and related linkage, and combined all of the best parts from the two and installed them, the shifter worked beautifully, and I couldn't be happier with the results. It seemed I was always working on the floor shifter. I can't lie, I didn't buy the truck to look at, I drive it every day and most of the time my foot is on the floor, as that old 352 still runs great. I even had problems with the ears on the bracketry breaking off. That was the Hurst. I also tried the Mr. Gasket shifter and it didn't stand up to well either. I ended up returning the Mr Gasket model, and had a friend with a welder do some bracing on the Hurst. I finally got it working quite well, and then ended up with all of the column parts about two weeks later. Anyway, let me know how it works out for you.

Well fellow ford fans i have installed the floor shifter. I hope it works out for me. I saved all the other linkages and stuff so if one day i fing a good stering collum for my 64 i will go back to collum. i like the colum shift much better than the floor. I had no choice but to put a floor shifter in. I installed the Mr Gasket floor shifter in the truck. i hope it works out well.

thanx for all the responce and the info
