Lately my battery light lights up while driving. It doesn’t stay on long and doesn’t come on every time. Usually on long trips hour or more. Or when lights and radio is on. I haven’t had any problems starting the truck. Is the alternator going out. I looked for loose wires and there aren’t any.
thank you.
i forgot to add. 2008 F 250 extended cab 4X4. And I don’t use the AC because it causes the Check Engine Light with intermittent miss fire. A mechanic checked and couldn’t find the problem. He reflashed computer and it was ok for a week. Then started again. (The Ac/interment misfire)
thanks again for your help.
Welcome to the site.....How many miles on the alt? 100k pull it off and check the brush set...Bearings for noise etc...Or as most folks do get a new unit..
I just rebuild mine... Easy for me....The light means its not charging usually....Brushes hang up or are worn... Voltage at battery when running 14.5v
Thanks I will look at You tube and see if that is something I can do. I can usually fix it if I can see it done on you tube 😃. 198000 miles on truck not sure on the alternator.
Disconnect the batteries and test each one individually, what voltage are you seeing? Now test the alternator on the truck, everything off in the cab then everything on are you seeing 14+ volts at the alternator? What are you seeing at the batteries?
Take the batteries and the alternator to get them load tested... determine what the problem is before you start throwing money at it.
