I have had my battery light come on a few times over the years, and it always leads to a new alternator. On Friday, I was headed to Northern Tool to grab up some black Friday deals and while sitting at a stop light the battery light faintly flickered for about 2-3 seconds. It was so faint and so short-lived that I am surprised I even noticed it (I guess I can thank being a helicopter pilot for being highly attentive to warning lights). Anyways, it went out and I haven't seen it since with a handful of miles over the weekend. Any chance this was just an anomaly? Anything I can check to see if there is impending electrical issue? I am primarily concerned because I won't be putting many miles on the truck between now and a trip pulling the 5th wheel to Florida in a couple of weeks and I really don't want to have a failure during the haul. Thanks.
I had the exact same issue last year.
The Diode in the Alternator has failed, or is in process of failing.
Replaced the Alternator - No issues (or flickering) since.
Well, that leads me to another question then. But I'll post another forum topic after doing a search on alternator lifespan and quality of different brands.
X4 on the connector. Mine was ready to snap off the back of the alternator from being repeatedly bent over as I leaned over the engine bay to work on my engine.
