what would you recommend changing the factory Y pipe to?
Dual 2.5 mendrel bends into a y that converts it to 3", run 3 all the way out the back, four gets a little tight with the axle over, tends to rub the shock.
Or just 2.5" true dual with some echo tips, old school cool

I’m thinking 2.5” or 3” that bends into a Y, 3” from there and then 4” tip. No special tip though, just 4” exhaust out the side
My 88 has 2.25" duals, my 92 is 3" down pipe into 4" that duals before the axle, 79 is dual 2.5" into 3.5" stacks. Thinking walker makes a 2.5 or 2.25" Y that is a lot better designed than stock, and not terribly expensive, want to say its for buses.
ATS during their R&D found that an exhaust bigger than 3" was no benefit whatsoever. And that was with turboed engines which take in and exhaust 1/3 more air/gases than non-turboed, but whatever turns you on.

where would I finder the walker Y pipe? For an ‘87?
edit: if I find a 2.5” Y pipe will it bolt right up to the manifold?
The dynomax 19430 kit y pipe, which you can buy separately, is what I run, helps. It's a 3" outlet. Theres also a company called autojet who used to make a y pipe and can still make one made to order.
