where is this “tang” located? I’ll try cleaning the connection first and if that doesn’t work I’ll rebend it to the proper position
Usually at the top of the parking pedal assembly, it's been a while but iirc mine broke at one time and caused a always on brake light. It's pretty hard to see up in there, look at the upper rear part

on my 88 it was a simple weak spring. i put a stronger spring on the pedal to hold it up into the switch and the light stays off mow.
^^^^^^^^^^ this is more likely to be the cause ... or the E-Brake mechanism just needs lubricated, than a failed switch when the light does not go off.

Similar thought here. Cables may be binding and do not allow the pedal to return to the "off" position.
