AC Compressor Recommendation? What else to do while there?
Haven't been on in quite a while since I sold my 6.0L about 7 years ago, replacing it with a F-150 Ecoboost.
Anyway, my dad has an '03 6.0L and is needing to replace the AC compressor. Wondering if anyone knows of what brand replacement is the best option since Motorcraft no longer supports it. Also planning to do a coolant flush, belt, and replace all idler/tensioner bearings while we're at it.
What else should we do? Water pump? Truck only has about 80k miles on it, and other than cleaning the turbo once it's had NO issues. It's never even had the EGR valve cleaned. All stock.
We did a thermostat around 50k with the last coolant flush. Should we do the thermostat again? Hoses? (and which ones)
Any recommendations are welcome. I know my way around the engine, did heads-off ARP studs on mine probably 9 years ago, just haven't stayed up to date on the latest recommendations.
Ford shows 2 "service" replacements available, but they are spendy compared to the aftermarket. Motorcraft NYCC17. YCC492. I don't know what the difference is between them.
Seventeen years is a long time for hoses. I would replace all of them.
And put Fumoto valves on the block drains.
Not going overboard, so won't be doing the Fumoto valves. Pulled the block drains during the last coolant flush and not going to that extent again since it's had EC-1 in it. Definitely doing the upper and lower hoses as well. Does anyone bother with the overflow hoses?

I saw those on Rockauto, but couldn't tell the difference between them unless one is new and one is reman? The OEM compressor seems to under-perform in a crew cab, was wondering if there were recommended higher performance options.

I replaced the vent hoses (the little ones that go to the degas bottle) because they had leak issues, but if not for that they would have gotten replaced when I did the others. I would definitely order those from White Bear Lake. I paid $36 for the intake to degas hose at my local dealer. My butt still hurts from that shellacking.
I just bought a new Carquest AC, but just because it was the cheapest one at the closest parts house to when I was broke down. Still broke down so can't tell you how well it works, but with this big shuttle bus with huge rear AC and all the miles I drive, I guess I'll know soon enough
You might consider replacing that V-hose under the degas bottle. I've had a couple of them start leaking, and the plastic piece in the middle gets brittle.

Took my ASE certified mechanic 1.0 hrs to get the compressor's ruin your day bolt out, just got mine back today from getting a new one installed and system flushed. IDK what he used, haven't seen the bill yet.
You might want to make sure the radiator fins are all clear. Blowing air in the opposite direction of the flow is my preferred method. If you remove the radiator, you can clean all the heat exchangers.
I think i got my oe ford kit from pensacola diesel. Did the install myself, it works pretty good. The oe compressor is nla and theyve gone to some other one thats cheaper. The kits like 350$. I can check my reciept tomorow.
Pensacola Diesel has caused a lot of issues with the bad injectors they have sold. I'm not sure I would trust them.
Were they selling aftermarket junk as OEM? I just went through their entire 6.0 offering and nearly everything is named Ford though much of it isn't Ford or Motorcraft.
Their early model high performance HPOP looks interesting. I wonder who is their supplier that's knocking-off Dieselsite.

Thanks, will definitely clean everything when it's apart, but have confirmed it's a leaking seal on the compressor.
