Largest spare tire?

What is the biggest spare tire that will fit on the original location? Mine is the original one and has some cracks so I am going to get a new one. I run 35's so would like a larger spare .

Anyone know how big will fit?

I got a 285 75 16 mud grip in there. It's a tight fit so I doubt anything larger would go without some modification.

What he said ^^. My Michelin 285x75-16 fits, but not much room to spare.

I fit a 315/75r16 underneath the truck for awhile. The crank was not happy and would loosen up after a few miles of driving. The spare now resides in the bed of the truck...

Thanks gents! I was thinking a 285 would fit. That is probably what I will get.

I’ve had a 35 under there for years with no problems. It touches the exhaust, so I put a head shield between them.

I also run a 35 under my truck, been there for years. Just had it down to check it out before a 6000 mile trip. All is good and it is still right where I put it before leaving .

P.S. I recently switched to a Ford 2.5" receiver hitch on the truck and that actually increased the room around the tire, I bet I could darn near squeeze a 37 in there now.

i fit a 315/75R16 ( 35x12.50" mud tire) under there no prob with stock exhaust, buddy had 4" exhaust and was a bit snug but fit. we've both since moved exhaust to turn out before rear tire.

Justin,
My original hitch was the type where the stinger receiver was mounted below the cross bar. The newer model (sorry I don't remember the exact year the guy said it was, Craigslist find. I just knew the frames where the same and I knew it would bolt up ) has the receiver tube inline with cross tube. This lowers the cross tube so it is more visible but by doing that also covers more of the tire, so it is not as visible from the rear. This design also has a higher tow weight rating. I could do a picture if needed.

I looked up you places location , I just drove past you 2 weeks ago on 85 headed back from Ohio.

This gives me hope, I switched to 18" Lariat wheels with 275/70/18s and I was hoping to get a spare to match as soon as I can find another wheel
