When I went to 37"s I bought 5 tires and rims. One stays in the bed cable locked. You can use the spare in a 5 tire rotation.
I don't want to be on vacation or in the wilds of Maine and then trying to drive home on 3, 37" tires and 1, 35 lol. It might take a week or more to get another 37 inch tire in. If you are just using the truck locally then you could get by with a smaller spare.
If just making do with a smaller spare, does it matter if the smaller spare gets put on front or back? If you got a flat on a rear tire, would it be best to put the spare on a front, and move the full-size front to the rear so that the rear axles and diff aren't spinning at different speeds? Assuming you're staying out of 4wd of course.

It matters if you have a limited slip or open differential. If you have a limited slip, smaller spare goes on the front. For an open diff, it doesn’t matter. Just don’t engage 4 wheel drive in either situation if on high traction ground.
I don’t have 37s but I do have factory size tires on 20” rims. The spare tire on my truck was undersized by about an inch in diameter. I have a few sets of extra tires so I just bought a random cheap new 20” aftermarket wheel to mount one of the extra stock size tires on. I had to do this because if I get a flat, I’m so remote that getting a new same sized tire may takes weeks and I need 4x4 daily.
I stowed a 37 x 12.5 x 22 spare tire in the stock location on my 2008. I did have to remove the heat shield. Didn't have any issues with the tail pipe being 2-3 inches away
