NSS selector tab replacement

I’m trying not replace the metal tab at the base and the steering column that operates the neutral safety switch. I’m having trouble. Any tips ?

Neutral switch selector lever fits onto the shift tube thru a hole in the steering column shroud.

It's a real b!tch to replace, because you have to lay on the floor, then try to get your mitts up in there to install the little charmer.

D0TZ-7B097-B (replaced C5TZ-7B097-A & D0TZ-7B097-A) .. NSS Selector Lever / Obsolete

1965/77 F100/350.

NOS ONLY in San Jose CA has 1 = 408-227-2353.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 10 = 800-543-4959,

CARPENTER NOS PARTS in Concord NC has 2,478 = 800-476-9653.

I have vague memories of using small channel locks or angle nose slip joint pliers. And a lot of foul language.

Either grab a mirror or put your phone in selfie mode and study the holes it snaps into. I think I very carefully bent one tab just a bit so I could hook one end and roll it into the other. If you try to bend it, be aware that it’s pretty brittle and won’t tolerate being bent far or too many times.

Old thread, shared tip

Just replaced the NSS on my 77. Tab was broken off after removing the switch I put a C clamp on the column and the other end on the hump of the remaining NSS metal bracket wrapped around the column. If you look or feel around you can feel the bump(s) of the bent metal. Put a little force into the C clamp and it bent the metal enough to push out an end tab of the metal clip. Adjusted the clamp and did the other side.

Put a magnet near the opening if you can to catch the tab if it pops loose and wants to slide down the column shaft. Don’t ask me how I know.

I vaguely recall the snap in tab has a couple holes at the base where it spreads to grip the holes in the tube below, the old broken one that left a base did too, a small screw driver inserted in one pried it open to pop off. A piece of string looped on the snapped off remnants pulled it out. I think a small magnet on a string would work too..
