I received a new remanufactured carburetor from Summit (Autolite 1100/1101) for my F350 w/ a 4.9L I6 and it is still flooding. Should I change the fuel pump? What could be causing the truck to not start or the carburetor to leak gas?
What kind of fuel pump? Have you measured the out put pressure? Many people report having to put regulators on to keep the pressure down.
I believe it is the original or exact replacement, mechanical fuel pump specific to the 4.9L inline 6 300, so it has no regulator, and I do not know the pressure it is putting out.
Other questions, What shape is the rest of the fuel system in? New? If not then maybe crude has made its way into the new carb and fouled the seat. Does your pump have a filter in it?
I put a new holley carb on my 352 to try to stop it flooding but it still kept doing it. Turned out the new carb had a pin hole in it so I'd check the float first
You may still have to set the carburetor's float level and mixture.
The instructions are in your service manual.
If your fuel pump is original, it should have a filter on it. Change it.
As to what could cause the carburetor to flood, it's the float level.
You may also need to change the needle and seat, I'd try to get a Viton needle, if possible.
