Hi all. I have a 6.0 excursion. The EGR is deleted. I am losing about 1-2 cups of antifreeze every 500 miles or so. I haven't noticed any leaks and my coolant temp stays in the 180s and 190s. You think this burn is normal or best to get it checked out? Thanks!
First - do a pressure check on the cold coolant system and make sure it will reliably hold 14-15 psi air pressure.
On a cold engine, remove the cap and inspect the cap sealing surface - it should be flat and smooth.
Then you can tee in an air hose and gauge to one of the small vent hoses that go to the degas bottle.
Pressure up to 14-15 psi and see if it holds.

Thanks Bismic! Also going over this further I see see residue around the coolant filter. SeI See pic. I didnt think there was a leak but this would indicate a leak at the filter, correct?
Could be. In fact there are quite a few places where you could get a drip when the engine was hot and not notice it readily. That is why I always do a pressure test first.
I have a 20 psi cap, so I can test at a little higher pressure, but I don't think I would do that with a stock radiator (mine is one from BPD). IMO, 15-16 psi is the max you want to put on the system with the original radiator.
