HELP!! 6.0 problem.

So I looked all over multiple forums and decided to post my own thread on this because I'm lost. Couldn't find exactly what I was looking for...

So I have a 2003 6.0 king ranch w/ 164k on it.. EGR delete, high pressure oil pump, coolant filter and SCT tuning. A couple months back I had a coolant flush done. After about a week the coolant tank was empty.. Engine heated up due to loss of coolant.. I flushed system again and put ford gold coolant back into the tank. (5 gallons). A couple days later and coolant was very low and engine heated up?? There are no signs of leaks anywhere...Added water and it cooled back down. I'm lost. EGR is deleted but no studs done..... YET. I'm supposed to go on a long trip tomorrow.. All the help needed here!!! Thanks.

Hopefully one the mods will see your post and move it to the 6.0 forum, the guys there are pretty knowledgeable and might be able to give you some direction of what to look at

Have your degas cap tested. Also don't overfill the bottle. Fill the bottle to the low mark only. Is the coolant fairly new?

I was thinking this was a possibility but if 10 gallons of coolant had leaked into the oil I would think the motor would be acting up already or dead.

If you have lost 10 gallons of coolant have an EGR delete and have NO signs of lost coolant Than you most likely have a head gasket leak, Smell your exhaust is it sweet smelling? Is there a white color to it? I check them by teeing a gauge into the coolant return line and mounting it on the driver side mirror I than go and do hard launches and if the gauge spikes up than I know I have a leaking head gasket.
This is my setup and I tee it into the return to the Degas bottle.

It is possible to have head gasket leaks between the cooling jacket and the cylinders while the oil passages are still sealed.

whalerron, I had a leak between the cylinders and the cooling system. It would pressurize the cooling system and the cap on the degass bottle would puke, I put a gauge on the cooling system and that's how we figured it out. Coolant never made it to oil. I would loose around a gallon to a gallon and a half before I would refill it.

I still have the gauge hooked up to watch the pressure. Highest I've seen so far was 10 PSI pulling around 14K trailer up a pretty good grade. ECT hit 220 and EOT hit 230, fan came on at 218 and cooled it all down.

Hmm interesting.. My degas bottle doesn't puke at all! I'm 9 hours into a 12 hour trip and all is good...

Be sure to turn your heater on for a few min and get everything cycled throughout. Sounds like you could be good, just needed to gulp.

All of this happened after he flushed the system. He states that he's 9 hours drive time with no symptoms at this point. I cant say for certain what will fix his issue. Just trying to be helpful.

Thanks guys.. Just finished a 12 hour drive. No symptoms... I'll keep eyeing temps for a while and coolant level to make sure it's okay. Hopefully it wasn't really anything. Fingers crossed...
