Does that new wire go to the ignition coil? My 59 has a red from ign to coil. A second black wire to coil from starter solenoid.

Consider running from the ignition switch to a relay to excite the alternator. This will separate the two and allow shutdown with key off.

The red wire on ign is likely your coil wire. The newer pink wire is not original. You should be able to follow it to wherever it is connected. None of the quoted text has anything to do with alternator wiring.
