were does this blck wire go? my starter solenoid went out. i think. so i replaced it and my truck still wont start. a black wire (coming from my ignition switch or some were else in my cab) broke off when i replaced it i guess or it broke some other way? i cant figure out were it goes i dont see any were it broke off of. its on a 59 f100. i just need to know were it goes to so i can put it back on. i no i didnt really explain it very well but i figured some one might understand. any help would be great. one last things should there be 3 or 4 terminals?
The solenoid has 2 terminals on the front, 4 total. one goes from the solenoid to your ignition coil(provides battery+ during cranking, bypasses the ballast resistor for easier starting) the other wire comes off the ignition switch and provides battery + to the solenoid to activate it(to switch power to the starter).
Have somebody crank the truck with the wire from the ignition switch unhooked at the solenoid and check for battery voltage there, If not check the wire all the way back to the switch, and lastly check the switch.
so should there be somthing hooked up to the I terminal? cause there was nothing hooked up to it when i took the old one off maybe thats were the black wire goes?
I believe there is a S and I terminal. S is from the ignition switch. I goes to the + side of the ignition coil. If you only have S hooked up, it will turn over, but will not start.
If the wire is stock from the harness, would it be ground by default? I don't have wiring diagrams at hand, but I know on later years, black was ground.
ok than i get it so if the black wire is a ground it will go to the side that the starter wire goes to? right. also the connections are really really rusted so i think im just not getting a good connection
