My big gripe is the waviness of the body panels and poor paint quality.
After a discussion with the salesman, he convinced me that it had not been damaged. After that, my wife and I walked the lot putting a critical eye of quite a few trucks. Some were better than others, but they all looked bad to some degree. I guess the aluminum panels are part of the issue with the waviness, but there’s no excuse for the orange peel.
I too was disappointed about the waviness of the panels when I got my 19. I was surprised that it really doesn't get brought up much on here and some claim their panels are straight haha. Like you, I have looked at many others on the lot seeing the same waves and imperfections on every one, to a greater or lesser degree. There was a period of time at first where I would notice what looked like a new crease or wave and think someone got me with their door, go to the dealer and see the same thing in the same location on all the other Super Duty's. Then at least I knew thats just how they are. Some colors make these waves much less noticeable. Mine is Magnetic Metallic so it shows them off.
The orange peel in my case I cant say stands out as much, in certain lighting it will catch my eye, but most of the time I dont really see it. The first time it really caught my eye was one cloudy morning after owning my truck for several months.
My 2020 was built in November of 2019. I've owned it since early January, and it currently has 5,100 miles on it. Zero issues so far. I love the transmission, but wish the exhaust brake was a little more aggressive. Engine is amazing, and mileage is on par with my 2015 Cummins/Aisin truck. Not much to complain about....
I have had my 2020 back to the dealership twice already and it has less that 1K miles on it. When the truck was new apparently they damaged the rear bumper in transit, They replaced the bumper and never disclosed it to me when I bought it. Well now that is where the fun begins. I noticed that none of the rear sensors were working and at 300 miles several codes started dropping on the dash. Come to find out (a week after I brought it in for repairs) they put the wrong wire harness on it when they replaced the bumper. I kindly asked how did that happen, this is when I find out they replaced the bumper when it was new. Then I am told of damage to the truck because of the bumper so it gets sent to paint and body. I finally get the truck back after 10 days and all seems good. Another 300 miles later the rear sensors don't work again. They now are telling me one of the sensors is bad and it is making them all flake out. The good news, they gave me a nice F250 loaner the bad news is I am about fed up with them. You drop 75K plus on a truck it should work perfect and crap like this should not happen. Seems like the quality is on a down hill slide for sure.
I can say I have owned 4 Ford trucks (two F150's and two F250's) and I made the mistake of getting rid of my 2017 F250 for this 2020 F250. So far it is the biggest mistake I have ever made when purchasing a vehicle. The other 3 were rock solid and had made me a FORD lover for sure. This one truck is changing my mind.
Other items I have noticed between the 2017 and 2020 in case you are wondering. Both Platinum models
- No more lights in the bottom of the door entrance. The 2017 Platinum used to light up...gone in the 2020
- No more ability to change the ambient light color inside the truck. I know it is minor but I really liked that...not to mention the kids loved it! Another feature removed in the 2020
- The truck shifts like sh$t with the 10 speed. I realize it is supposed to "learn" but man is it annoying. Shifts hard especially in lower gears and it is not consistent at all. Worse than driving with someone who doesn't know how to drive a standard.
- The truck will randomly lose power in 1st and second gear...usually when I need it most. Again related to the transmission learning I assume but dangerous and annoying both
- Not a fan of the new headlights they seem a lot less bright than the ones on the 2017.
- The only good thing I have found is the MPG seemed to have increased pretty significantly from 2017 to 2020. Somewhere in the range of 2mpg+ if I am driving on the highway and being nice to it.
There is updated software for the TCM for 6.7 trucks built before or on January 15th. Mine had the transmission issues you describe and I had the flash done last month and it shifts nicely now.
Only issue I have going on is a weird binding noise I get when the steering wheels is being adjusted. Having it looked at this coming Tuesday. Should be an easy fix once it’s taken apart.
Mystery vibration after 3 visits to the dealer they can’t find the problem. The vibration is in the seats nothing in the steering. First they realigned it = no result. Second they rebalanced the two back tires and check the drive shaft =no result. Third they changed rear tire on driver’s side and rebalanced the tire on the passager side =50 % less vibration on the on the driver side but vibration worse on passenger side in seat and floor. Now the dealer says they don’t know what to do ! After paying top dollar for a Ford F-350 2020 Limited we are very frustrated.
Only problem so far was a tailgate backup camera that black screened, no problems with camera since replacement.
Not really happy with the gas pedal response time, but from everything I've read that is the norm for trucks these days.
Overall though, I really like the truck.

I guess I can add water leak as well. First heavy rain since I bought it last night, water dripping out the upfitter switches this morning.
Guess I joined the leaky roof clearance lights club, didn't even make it to 1k miles yet!
2020 7.3 F250, I hate the trans with a passion. Its been back to the dealer for it and both times stamped as normal. The shifting is complete crap and there is no pattern to it. VERY aggressive down shifts some times and the hesitation from take off are the main two gripes. I spent the money with 5 Star hoping their tunes would help the shifting and I can say in my case they did not help and in some ways made it worse. All of this for a truck that is brand new that has a transmission that for some reason forgets its a transmission and thinks its a toaster or something. When I test drove it the truck was still in "transport mode" and the shifting was not this bad. My kingdom for a good ford tuner to fix the shifting as I am convinced its a software thing and the dealer is no help.

There is a TSB on hard transmission shifts for super dutys built before 1/15/20.

I don't have the hard downshift issues, but I almost got T-boned today making a left onto a very busy 4 lane road with no center turn lane. I stomped on it, and it simply wouldn't accelerate, it just hesitated. It's very annoying.
Build date on mine began the day after Super Bowl 2020. Ordered 1/9/20 - Delivered 2/2/20. Have to say, I have almost 4000mi and about 1/2 of that is towing a 7500# trailer.
When I test drove it with 13mi (just prior to delivery), it had no issues with a hard shifting tranny. But I had driven others that were terrible (but were built late '19 and had 18mi or so miles to start). I've been pretty easy on the transmission, never really mashing it super hard, but I do ease into WOT on my uphill freeway on-ramp and it pulls nice and smooth. Pulled off a two-lane road pass starting at 65 pulling my trailer and hit 85+ and it pulled like a beast. Guess I've been lucky so far with the transmission.
So far no leaks or creaks (have the full pano sun roof), but the driver's door vs. other panels on that side are a little off, but not enough I'd risk someone screwing with it and making something else worse.
Perhaps the only real complaint is that it has an ever so slight pull to the right. I found the tire pressures were a bit higher on the driver's side, when I equaled the pressures to within about 1#, the pull mostly went away. I also adjusted the tire pressure to 55 Front, 68 Rear. Seems to make the ride a bit less harsh (used Forescan to set the minumums to 50 / 50 so I could play with pressures a bit more).
I've not noticed the orange peel and I've had two high-end after-market full vehicle paint jobs that were like glass, so I can't complain too much about the Iconic Silver, maybe it lays down a little better, or maybe the temp and humidity on the day the truck was painted allowed the paint to lay down better.
