Sounds like you have recovered from the surgeries but there is a price to be paid.
For the draining of the separator, do you have any children close by? I really don't know how you would be able to accomplish it otherwise.
Best you can do is watch your fuel source.

I'm fussy about where I buy fuel and use Ford diesel additive. I guess that's working!

I suggest you don't wait until the light comes on- that's a bad practice. I drain monthly or if towing and using lots of fuel from many stations at the end of each tow trip.
Yeah I know it stinks and always runs down your arm but a damn site easier and cheaper than a new CP4
