Hello!, My daughter has a 2001 F150 (5.4L, two whl drive) and the battery/starter cable is pretty corroded, and the battery terminal clamps should definitely be replaced!. I believe there might be a fusible link in the cable so I thought best to get a Motorcraft direct replacement. Found a Ford part Number of WC-95760, which I believe is the correct one, but no-one seems to have one in stock/discontinued. I have seen some replacement cables for several hundred dollars but that's way to much to pay for a cable. Besides, my daughter is a teacher out on furlough and she can't afford to hat much. Does anyone have a source for a direct fit battery starter cable, that doesn't cost too much?
Also, does anyone know of a good Jcase/cartridge fuse puller? I broke one with my pliers trying to get it out. They sell relay pullers, and blade fuse pullers, but I can't find a fuse puller made expressly for the Jcase/cartridge fuses.
i think i would cut the plastic wrap back several inches and look at the cables... There is obviously a #2 (?) cable that runs to the positive and another to the negative terminal... You could buy a 6 inch long cable at the auto store and cut to have the battery clamp and 6 inch lead... cut off your ORIGINAL lead and splice the new on.... They make sleeve connectors that are basically a hollow tube that you slide the old cable into one end and the new into the other... then solder them together and wrap. ............ if you cant solder something that size, talk to local electrician or plumber.
Seven years is the linit a mfg has to make parts available.
Otherwise, they sell them off to aftermarket vendors or are marketed as a new design.
There are copper ends available to make up new cables, if your inclined.
Wally Smart even has them in the auto section.
A Welding supply has cable off a reel any length you want.
Good luck.
I'm gonna have to get one of those for my Auxiliary box. As for battery/starter cables, this is one situation where the most logical approach is to just extract the originals, measure and replace them with generic ones from Walmart/parts store or make your own. A pair of Marine style battery terminals (wing nuts on top) makes it easy to hook everything back up. Good time to replace those braided ground straps with cables too. Use stainless steel bolts and dielectric grease and you'll never have an issue. Redoing all the grounds was the first thing I did to my Expedition when I got it in 2016. My ground straps had disintegrated, but the cables that went on in their place have been trouble-free since then. I used 4awg cable from a welding supply store (~$1 per foot) and soldered the end lug terminals on with a pencil butane torch.
There's plenty of info on soldering battery cables on Youtube. I've done it plenty, but I generally prefer to use my 8-ton hydraulic crimper anymore. It produces more consistent results with less effort and there's no risk of fire-related accidents. Makes it really handy when there's carpet or plastic nearby, like with the catalytic converter heater cables in a BMW 750IL.
