Just picked up a 2000 F250 6.8. The guy I bought it from, told me someone broke in and broke the ignition. He had parts replaced, can't recall if he said it was the hole steering column, but I think it was. So it has a new ignition cylinder, and shifter and such. But something somewhere isn't aligned properly. Sometimes the truck will start just fine, other times it refuses to start unless I grab the shifter and pull it up/left rather forcefully, then it will start just fine. The needle points a little right of the P when in park, and it doesn't feel like to goes into park solidly, like my E350 with 6.8/4R100 does. D/2/1 all have a solid click type feel to them, but P/R don't really.
What is it that is out of adjustment here? And how do I fix it?
There is a procedure in which you disconnect the cable from the transmission and then hang an 8lb weight with the shifter in the neutral position. Then reconnect the cable at the transmission.

Google it up for the exact method.
So after searching for what you suggested, and reading a few different things, I went digging under the dash. Nothing was loose, so I went under the truck. And realized I could pop the plastic off, and move where the linkage cable attached to the tranny. And moving that, made it so it goes into park properly now, and starts up just fine. I then used the screw **** to make the needle properly align to where the new setting was. Seems to be fixed, thanks.
Might want to check or replace the shifter bushings. Search the forums and YouTube. Lots of write ups and videos. Mine were hashed.

Negative. As I said, the previous owner replaced the steering column. To my knowledge, all of that is new. And there is zero slop in the shifter, it actually feels almost too tight.
