ok i took out the transmission yesterday to fix a leak and put it back in no problem went to start the motor and it wouldn't start and we figured it out park on the shifter on the dash is reverse, reverse is neutral, neutral is drive, drive is 2, 2 is low, and then we can't get the shifter it low. so i figured that i put the cable onto the transmission wrong so i took it off took a wrench and shifter the transmission into park and than put the shifter into park and it wouldn't go together. the cable is hanging there right now and i still can't shift it to low.
how did this happen. this is the second time we dropped the transmission and the first time this was no problem and we did nothing different.
can anyone tell me what went wrong and can tell me how to fix this
how can it break that easily we didn't pull on it or nothing on it just took the 2 bults that hold down the bracket and the nut that holds the cable to the transmission than just put it on the frame off to the side out the way
i might want to add my truck i forgot
94 ford f150 351w (5.8L) E4OD tranny with 4x4
you can put it out of adjustment i have done it or if when you shifted it the shifter tube in the steering column broke mine did it when i shifted it out of park i mean it was 18 years old cant expect it to last forever lol. does the shifter spring back after you pull it forward?
do you have reverse neutral and drive? if so put the truck in neutral shut it off and put the parking brake on until you get it fixed. I would just go to the local u pull it yard and find an old f150 or bronco with an e4od and get the cable off of it its like 5 bucks at the one i go too and my toolbox is big enough i get it for the "free" discount lol
