Crate engine
I've worked it all kinds of ways from a short bed standard cab F150 w/5.0 and have been playing with the 7.3 in different F250 combinations lately. I guess I look at it like, if I'm going to order one, then I'm getting a minimum of some things and that includes supercab (getting hard to find on the lot!) and 4x4. I'm not completely convinced on a F250 as I think a 5.0 F150 would serve my needs and get better mileage. I think the most I'd ever tow would be an open car trailer with an old car or truck on it, so maybe 8K max? I think a F150 would handle that fine set up right and would be less. Yes, yes, I know, the ecoboost are all the rage and do everything better, but I'm fine with a naturally aspirated V8 under the hood, which is what attracts me to the 7.3.
I looked at the order sheet for a new Bronco, but meh, when they put a Coyote in it, maybe I'll be interested. Maybe - but a truck is a better all around vehicle IMO even if it's not the latest shiny new thingmy.
I've ordered 2 new Fords in the past, a '73 Mach 1 (yes, I'm that old) and a '96 F250 4x4 (wish I'd kept that one). I would love to order a new Mach 1 due next yr, but besides the cost, I just don't need one of those anymore. Too tempting to go fast, and it's not like the old days when fines and punishments were more reasonable. The new ones have way more power than the old muscle cars, not to mention how they handle and have AC and other comforts we could only dream of. If I'd only bought that Boss 429 for $2400 back during the gas crunch of '74. could pay for any damn new truck I wanted today lol!
Anyway, still deciding, but I've got a good late model truck 2 wheel drive that is paid off and runs good, but who knows, the order sheet may get the best of me yet...
