Bleeding Brakes / ABS Unit Using A Scanner ?

Trying to weed out a problem with my brakes. I suspect I have air in the ABS unit and would like to bleed it. I have the pay version of FORscan so I should be able to accomplish this myself. I'm wondering if someone can explain the proper procedure using FORscan or a scanner ? I do not have all-data or any other type of manual handy. Hopefully someone here can help me with the step by step procedure.

Have you rifled through the Forscan forums? I find them to be a little wonky, but there should be something in there.

I did find these, which may help out...

Sounds like we need a good process for a sticky!!!

Thanks for the links. I've come up with little in my own searches.

Sounds like, bleed a couple times normally, then activate the ABS with the bleeder open, then bleed a couple more times normally ?

Got a couple calls out to people with access to All-Data, but no calls back yet.

So, I'll try to explain my issue, and maybe someone can help.

Recent brake work includes all four calipers replaced with Powerstop reman a year ago

Last week, new pads and rotors by Applied Performance. Installed new Russell Braided flexible lines along with new hard lines on the rear axle. Also installed Russell speed bleeders.

Problem: When braking, brakes feel great. Firm, not spongey. I can brake hard from freeway speeds and brakes are great.... truck stops nice and straight with my hands off the wheel.... until the truck gets down to say, 7mph. At that point I feel a single pulse in the brake pedal, it feels as though the left front caliper releases some because the truck then steers to the right down to zero mph (like approaching a light or stop sign). At the point where I feel the single pulse and the truck pulls right, there are no ABS lights, nor any other lights on.

Trying to think back to when this started..... I think, but not 100% sure, it started last summer when I blew the hard line coming off the ABS module that goes to the left front brake. At no time has my master cylinder run dry, or even low in any way.

At this point I've bled the crap out of all calipers, and paid for the license on FORscan to be able to bleed the ABS. I have bled the ABS today, and more regular bleeding, but the problem is still there. I've run about three quarts of brake fluid through it so far.

Anyone have thoughts on what my problem may be ?

This thread in the 7.3L PSD sub-forum may be of some help.

I got rid of my powerstops February of last year, no issues since then. I had a similar problem at low speed as well. I was in CA at the time so my wife just took it to the local diesel shop they replaced the brakes, calipers and rotors.

Pull the suspected caliper off and check to see if one of the pistons is frozen.

Well, my braking mystery is solved. I regretfully took the truck to my mechanic. After I explained the symptoms and what I had done so far he said, 'I got a handle on it'. He pulled the LF wheel and brake /rotor. Carefully removed the ABS sensor (he tells me they almost always break off when trying to remove them) and cleaned the mounting surface for the sensor. Apparently, it only takes a little bit of rust forming under the sensor for it to lose it's contact with the tone ring. Forty dollars in labor, and zero dollars in parts and I no longer have a wonky brake problem. Thanks to everyone who contributed !
