Hi all,
I have a 1997 RV based on the E-350 frame with V-10, 4 wheel disc brakes. Dealership did the 90k inspection and recommended flushing the brake system.
I have done this many times with no problems on my 68 Mustang and 78 F-150, but they don't have ABS.
Is there anything special to bleeding the brakes on an ABS equipped vehicle? All I do on my truck and mustang is start farthest from the m/c, bleed it out until the reservoir is almost empty, fill it up w/ new fluid, and then continue bleeding out until it runs clear, and repeat on each farthest wheel (making sure m/c stays full).
Right now the brakes work fine, and I don't want to mess them up by trying this, probably won't be fun to lose the brakes on a 30,000 lb vehicle.
If all your doing is flushing out the old fluid, then your on the right track. You would just do a normal brake bleed, if you let the M/C run out, you'll have to bring it to the dealership so they can bleed the HCU (Hydrolic Control Unit) for the ABS. This requires a computer which connects to the DLC (data link connector) under the dash.
