I don't see anything wrong with the poster that stated the use of Train horns is illegal and "why would you install one". Not everyone knows this and it is good information to have if considering installing one.
Check your local laws (if you care) as train horns on vehicles are illegal in many places around the country. I had an air horn, not as loud as a train horn, on one of my vehicles back in the 80s. The novelty quickly wore off and after the first week, I doubt I ever used it again. While we can mount them on a vehicle here in CA, we can’t legally use them. Here is our vehicle code:
27000. (a) A motor vehicle, when operated upon a highway, shall be equipped with a horn in good working order and capable of emitting sound audible under normal conditions from a distance of not less than 200 feet, but no horn shall emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound.
EDIT - I looked up the regs for Georgia and they are the same as CA.
O.C.G.A. 40-8-70 (2010) 40-8-70. Horns and warning devices (a) Every motor vehicle when operated upon a highway shall be equipped with a horn in good working order and capable of emitting sound audible under normal conditions from a distance of not less than 200 feet, but no horn or other warning device shall emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound or a whistle. The driver of a motor vehicle shall, when it is reasonably necessary to ensure safe operation, give audible warning with his or her horn but shall not otherwise use such horn when upon a highway.
Before deciding the sound is illegal because it is "unreasonably loud or harsh" my guess is that "unreasonably loud or harsh" would have to first be clearly defined.
Coming on here to complain about guys complaining, is just as bad. 😂
I wired mine up to the Upfitter and stock horn just like he did.
Funny story...went to Les Schwab yesterday to have my tires rotated. I'm waiting around in the lobby on my computer and after a bit i hear a slightly higher horn than you would normally hear. I think to myself, "He's resetting the TPMS and i left the upfitter switch on." So i hear it go off 2-3 times as he's going around the vehicle to each tire when one of the techs comes walking in and he says to one of his co-workers, "theres a train horn on that thing!" I look at him and i say "SO SORRY! You can shut it off by just flipping the upfitter #1." He responds back with "oh don't worry about it, he's almost done anyway, plus it's a good wake up in the middle of the day." So i leave it be at this point. Then i proceed to hear the train horn go off probably another 10 times. Pretty sure he was either not getting the TPMS's reset correctly, or just liked hearing the horn in their shop

The reason there was a longer delay between horn sounds was because the tech had to run home and change his shorts. 😂 That’s hilarious.
So, any time someone has a question about a mod, we're going to reply with a bunch of "why would you do that?" statements? Lift kits, 37" tires, loud stereos, offroad lights, custom decals, and so on? Sheesh.
The Kleinn kit above is the only bolt-on kit. Kleinn and Hornblasters are generally high quality, high cost horns. Nathan are real train horns and cost a small fortune. You can get about as cheap as you want, just search on Amazon. On-board air is obviously required. Viair makes several kits, but there are other brands, too. A good, high quality 100% duty cycle + 2-3 gallon tank will be in the $300 - $400 range. Stand-alone horns will be $100 - $400 ... maybe 3-4x that for Nathan. So, you'll be into it $500 - $800 for the air and horns.
Then, install. You'll need to figure out how to do this, if you don't pay the premium for the Kleinn kit. Some remove their spare tires and install up there. Some install along the frame rails. Either way, you'll probably be into it another $100 for various sheet metal and angle-iron to craft mounting brackets. You'll be into it another $50-$100 for connections, hose, and other installation gear.
I would love to have on-board air. Train horns are a nice to have ... there are times going up I-70 towing a trailer that having an air horn would be nice ... just like it's nice for the big rigs to have an air horn.
You're pretty much "On Point" with everything! I did a Hornblasters kit on my '08 F-250 and then a little bit better kit (better compressor and larger tank only - same 4 horns) from them on my '15 F-350. I wired my truck's horn button, through a relay controlled by a rocker switch on my dash. That way, I could run regular horn at home and around town and then just flip the switch over to get the air horns when I was on the highway or if I just needed them for a "Special Occasion"!!! I'd love to do my new 2019 F-450... but at 70 years old and after 3 back surgeries, I just can't do it anymore! :-(
I like my horn and really don't care what people think about them. When someone pulls along side me on the highway and are on the phone I make sure the are watching the road at least until the get away from me. But the 5 gallon 150 psi air tank is nice to air up trailer tires that are 110 psi.

What size tank did you have on each one? I see quite a few they offer are of the 2 gallon size. But theres a significant step up in price to larger tanks. Larger tanks would seem harder to find a place to mount besides the spare tire delete or in the truck bed.

On fame under passenger door with a quick connect for air hose but I have a short hose I want to run out by license plate so I don't have to bend over, just lazy.

Nice. Thank you. Any problems with it catching on brush etc? Easily visible?
I've wanted a Nathan K5LA setup for so long. And now that my 5 year old son loves trains so much he would think it's the coolest thing ever.
And yes, I do live to impress and put smiles on my young children's faces.
YES!!!! The Nathan K5LA is the absolute best train horn EVER! Back in the day (OK, only about 10years ago, you could get the K5LA on Ebay for about $700 - real deal). Now full set-ups are running $1500 - $1800 or better. 150psi air tank and compressor a must. If I had stupid money to drop on something like this, this is what I would do.
