I just purchased a set of air horns for my truck, I need to find the existing horn so I can disconnect it and use the wiring for my air horn and compressor. Any one know where the electric horn sits? Thanks guys.
Just a thought...
I have an air horn on my truck but I wired it up to a seperate button. That way I can use the regular horn for a less demanding situation, and I still have the air horn, or BOTH at the same time, to let the a-hole that pulled out in front of me know how happy I am about it!
I was told that it is underneath the passenger side battery but I can't find it and didn't want to take the battery out either so I just took for granted that is was.
On my "old" '97 the horn and connections are behind the passanger side headlight. I also wanted to put in another horn and I ask here how to remove the headlight but got no reply. If your hand and arm are no more than 1" round you can easily reach it...............
Thanks guys, I will try and locate the horn under the battery, And I guess I will have to pull it out. As my arms are 1 1/2 inches around. Damn, steriods. But, thanks for the info.
I left the stock horn connected, and added a relay and switch. With the switch on both the stock and air horns sound, with the switch off only the stock horns. Makes it easy to go through New Jersey inspection this way.
Depending on how and where you plan on doing the wiring, you can tap the horn button coming off of the steering column. If you decide to go this route let me know and I'll take a look at my truck to see what wire I tapped into. FYI I have an a '02.
Well I got my air horns put in. Thanks for all the help and info guys. Soon I will replace them with a set of locomotive horns so they will sound pretty too but for now at least they are loud.
Hey fire , when you get those train horns they will require a bigger air line and lots of compresed air . ! This is popular on big trucks and most guys run a 1/2" air line to the train horns. Also because of their size they mount them behind the cab , on a P.U you may have to mount them under the box , but be prepaired to be blasted out of the cab !!
Yeah I know I will need a larger air hose. I have a high dollar compressor for my air bags already, I just need to gett a 2 gallon air tank before I mount them.(Need to get the horns too).
fire rooster, i just added air horns too to my truck. What kind of compressor do you have? I mounted a long(ish) air tank (im guessing about 8-10 gal) under pass side bed, forward of springs. All i need now is a compressor.....
I got my compressor when I bought my air bags. I also got the incab controls and dual gauges. You can buy just the compressor from firestone or air ride suspension. You can also go to an RV parts store and purchase them there. I also just saw them in a Jc whitney catalog. Around 2-4 hundred dollars depending on size and quality. Hope this helps.
