Well guys I think my vintage Mallory electronic distributor has given up the ghost. For a week or so the truck, 65 F100, 352 with 4bbl, lumpy cam, headers, has been showing a hard start hot, rough running hot, back fire, stall. At first I thought it was California changing to summer fuel, vapor lock, but that tach dropping to zero and the backfiring convinced me that it was ignition. Long story short, I have no spark and am looking for a dizzy. Recommendations? The Mallory was cool but I guess they have been bought by someone else. I see a lot of pertronic distributors at summit... What's good?
I saw them on summit.com and have used them before but I went with the summit brand, and now I'm wondering if I could save some money and just got the parts to fix my Mallory..
Well, I went back on summit and found a replacement pickup set for $121, about half the price of a new dizzy. It arrived today, along with a leaking Mallory coil, (Made in China) that I will be returning. Installed the USA made pickup and it fired right up! Plus, I don'tr have to recurve a new distributor now, plug and play, I'm on the road again.
