Back in 2011 I started a thread about restoring my dads 79 F150 supercab 4x4 400 standard heres the thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...dads-79-a.html. . I got the truck done but did not do much under the hood about 89000 miles. Well I have not driven it for a while and seeings it is fathers day I fired it up and took my daughter for a ride. Well the radiator started to leak bad from core at bottom of the tank. My question is does anyone make a direct replacement not aluminum. I want to keep the truck original so maybe my best bet is to just take it to a radiator shop and see if it can be repaired, Any suggestions. Sitting is so hard on vehicles. Thanks.
By all means see if yours can be repaired first. If not usradiator.com . Think that's right link. Be aware they are expensive. They are available in copper/brass. One for mine, 78 F150 460 starts out at over 900. Seems to me there's another but I can't find it.
Well the radiator man said it would be 500 to recore it plus anything else that may come up. He thought it was too far gone to repair. Yep thats my luck.
I got my stock supercooling replacement radiator from NPD, that was a few years ago. It was around $350. https://www.npdlink.com/1948-1979-fo...s-brass-copper
EDIT: Looks like prices have gone up in the last few years, who-da thunk?
I found out today that the radiator is not repairable I also had one in a parts truck and it is no good either want 600 for a recore plus anything else they come across said it really not worth fixing.. I appreciate the replies but my radiator has inlet 1 3/4 on passenger side and the outlet 2in on drivers side it measures 19 1/4 by 26 1/4. Having trouble finding a stock looking replacement. I really am not crazy about aluminum but I did find one made by champion and wonder if anyone here has tried them? https://www.championradiators.com/Fo...ll-side-mounts
I ended up replacing the heater hoses upper and lower radiator hoses thermostat that were all original. Had to order an aluminum radiator just waiting on that now.
I ended up going with a 4 row Aluminum Champion radiator. To my surprise it was a direct bolt in even down to the overflow hose brackets. It seemed to run much cooler now and it was 92 out when I test drove it. https://www.picpasteplus.com/v.php?i=8e3c2184d2
