Just bought a 2004, and the only key I received fits the ignition but not the doors. (Truck does not have power door locks.)
I know I have a couple options, but my google foo is not working these days. I have spent at least 2 hours looking for door cylinders for an '04, and I can't find them, I see '99-'03 and nothing after that.
If I could find the Ford rekey kit with chrome caps and wafers, I would go that route. Rekey my cylinders, and then take it to the dealer to get another key made.
Or, if I could find the complete lock set with new keys, I would have to take it to the dealer with the old key and cylinder, and I guess let them install the new cylinder.
Or, a lock set just for the doors, and still go to the dealer for another ignition key. Just have to carry two keys.
Anybody have correct part numbers for any of the above?
I have called a couple locksmiths, and they apparently don't want the business. Guess it isn't worth their time.
As you ponder your options bear in mind, it takes two unique PATS keys to program a third one. Since you have just one key, you will either have to see a dealer for PATS programming, see a locksmith who can do this, or learn how to use FORScan to do the programming. If this were my problem, I would have someone cut a non-PATS key based on the VIN and see if it fits the door locks. My bet is, it will. I would then buy a STRATEC brand ignition lock, take it to a locksmith, and have him key it to fit the correct vehicle key (been there, done that). Install the iggy lock myself (it's easy, been there, done that) them program TWO, not one but TWO new keys. Then make a third one so you have two unique keys, in case you loose one. Problem solved. Make sure you ONLY buy STRATEC or the other OEM to Ford brand key, as anytrhing other than these two hav proven that they are not 100% reliable.
