ok so im pretty much asking a couple questions from the only place i know can answer this.... to start with,my truck has been broken into before and the ignitioin lock cylinder was replaced.but like u r probably thinking right now the doors take one key and the ignition a different key.i dont like all that.so my question is,is there a site or shop that sells a package, both door locks and ignition lock cylinders all together with 1 key for all 3 locks? and if not can i send my key in or something and have them send back a matching ign cylinder?question number 2. i like the new style ign. lock. like the ones on the 2007 f150 (i think it may be the same on the 2008 superduty as well) it takes a different style key. can we swap those in our trucks? i would like the new style locks in my truck.....i know it may seem pointless but its just a nack of mine, plus i can get a new style lock cylinder for the ignition really cheap from my buddy.
thnx for the look yall. jr
cool that gives me one way out then.but i wouldnt mind updateing to the new style set up either. anyone know if that will work? if not ill do the locksmith route
If the new style keys you are referring to are PATS keys I would think the PATS functionality wouldn't work without some pretty serious changes. Not sure about the interchangeability of the lock cylinder itself and whether it would function for all other purposes though.
If the lock cylinder will fit and operate correctly you will be fine. The pats module IIRC is a wire hooked up to it, if you dont have the wire to hook up, you just dont hook it up. I am in desprite need of a new lock cylinder and a door lock cylinder. Since my drivers door cylinder doesnt turn anymore(odd), and my igntion cylinder is starting to not want to either. It sucks.

Neither doors nor tailgate lock worked on my truck. Took out all 3 cylinders, sprayed with brake kleen, blew out with compressed air and lubed with fine graphite powder. They work great now. Graphite dry lube for cylinder locks works best. Wet lube just attracts dust and gums them up. If you are always using remote to unlock doors it is a good idea to use the key periodically to excercise the cylinders.

same thing happened to me, I just found a good locksmith and he cut me a new key from my old one, he tried tried the new key, made adjustments to it and now it works like butter. The original key was just wore out. ...
so as to not to hijack the thread, when my truck was broken in to, IE...door cyl was punched out with a screwdriver, I had an alarm installed with remote entry and used a set of rear crewcab door handles on the front doors with no key hole to eliminate the possibility of it happeneing again. I was tempted to replace the lock cylinders in the door and boobytrap them with a 12 gauge shell but I finally calmed down and went the sensible route.
haha, i like that idea. I dont usually have to worry about theft around here. Unless some punkass kids from the city come here and start robbing things in the woods. That would be a costly mistake on their part.
My drivers door lock is punched in from a screwdriver after it messed up, I locked my keys in the truck once, and had a hammer and a screwdriver, so i needed it to get in. Since it didnt work anyways, I figured eh ill replace it. I dont have a remote door unlock so it looks pretty funny going to the passenger door to unlock my doors.
im thinking the same thing.the PATS wouldnt affect a vehicle without the system.so as long as the cylinder locks in i think i shouldbe fine.thnx for all the responses yall.and the backdoor handles on the front is a really good idea.

hope there was something of worth in this
I like your style! Was wondering what you will do if your battery dies in your remote and you can't unlock the doors? Do you have a hidden button or battery hidden somewhere? I was thinking of going this route too, but then heard that the jerks just wreck your door panel and go in behind the door handles. I'm not sure if I want to go the route of spending all the cash for Jimmy Jammers and metal door handles yet.
