trailer towing screen problems

I recently ended a 350 mile tow with my 20 ft travel trailer Have a 2016 F150 xlt 3.5 eco. While driving on the hwy I would get a periodic message on the dash screen "trailer disconnected" I pull over and everything ok. This happened 4 times on the trip. Pushed ok and the message disappeared. 3 other times " left side trailer light inoperable" Has anyone experienced this in the past?.

I once had a similar problem, and it was because I did not have the Bargman (AKA 7-pin) connector in all the way. I would suggest that you get a q-tip and clean the connectors on both the truck and the trailer. Then as an added precaution, you could take another Q-tip (or two) and swab in some DC-4 as a precaution against water intrusion. Finally, when you plug that connector in, push good and hard on it. The dust cover should come down and latch the trailer plug such that you can't remove it without lifting the dust cover.

A bad ground on either the trailer or tow vehicle side can cause that as well.

In my case, I looked under my trailer to find that all the scotch-lock brake wiring connectors had come loose and I had no functioning brakes. After researching this common problem online, it has come to my attention that most trailers use crappy small-gauge wires and *****ty wiring connectors. My next project is rewiring my brand new trailer so I have reliable brakes. Unbelievable that trailer manufacturers push this unsafe ***** on paying customers! Unacceptable!!!

That is not uncommon WRT butt-splice connectors on trailers. Better ones use gel-filled (water resistant) butt splices.

An even better solution would be to properly solder the wire connections and shrink wrap them so they don't fall apart when driving down a mountain in the rain like mine did. I don't see the benefit of cutting corners on something as important as BRAKES!
